Bazaar Beneficiary Announced

We are excited to announce that Goodweave will the beneficiary of the proceeds of this years Global Crafts Bazaar.

“GoodWeave works to end child labor in the carpet industry and to offer educational opportunities to children in South Asia.

The GoodWeave label is the best assurance that no child labor was used in the making of your rug. In order to earn the GoodWeave label, rug exporters and importers must be licensed under the GoodWeave certification program and sign a legally binding contract to:

  1. Adhere to the no-child-labor standard and not employ any person under age 14
  2. Allow unannounced random inspections by local inspectors
  3. Endeavor to pay fair wages to adult worker
  4. Pay a licensing fee that helps support GoodWeave’s monitoring, inspections and education programs

GoodWeave has freed more than 3,600 children from weaving looms, providing each with the educational and other opportunities needed to embark on a new path in life. After being reunited with their families whenever possible, rescued children—most of whom have never seen the inside of a classroom—are offered a fully sponsored education through grade 10 or the age of 18, whichever comes first.” (www.goodweave.org)

We are also especially excited because Nancy Wilson, Dean of the Tisch College is a member of the board of directors of the Goodweave, and Nina Smith, the Executive Director of Goodweave USA is a Tufts  Alumn!
